He is called Husband, Father, Son, Friend, King, Priest, Prophet, Teacher, Shepherd, Alpha and Omega, Love -- and a Consuming Fire.

He's the Judge, the Defender and the Redeemer. He's a God of mercy and a God of wrath, full of justice and unable to lie.

Jesus Christ is the great I AM, Creator of all the universe, Jehovah-YHVH-God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob-Israel, Savior and Deliverer.

All knowledge, power and authority reside in Him.

Meeting Him is what it's all about. There is nothing so awesome as having a relationship with your Creator.

How does one meet the Lord of the Universe?

You could read His Book.

There are no "campaign promises" to be found, as that term is used, but there are plenty of promises.

Many of the promises are conditional. Some are terrifying. Most are wonderful.

Here's a simple promise:

[God] is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

But it's a conditional promise. Here's the full verse:

But without faith it is impossible to please God. For it is right that the one drawing near to God should believe that He is, and that He becomes a rewarder to the ones seeking Him out. (Hebrews 11:6)

God will reward those who seek Him. But first it is necessary to believe that He exists, and that He will reward the seeker.

There are all sorts of tracts and other writings explaining how to have a proper relationship with God, usually divided into four or five steps. We plan to link to one or more of those documents here.

But the first step is to acknowledge this simple division: He is God and you are not.

Realize that any relationship will be on His terms -- not yours.

Getting past this initial step is not always easy. Jacob wrestled with the Lord. It seems all the children of Israel go through a tussle or two before obtaining a blessing.

Once we realize that God exists, that He is all while we are nothing, that we have an emptiness in our lives that only He can fill and a sickness in our hearts that only He can heal, we begin to seek Him.

It might begin with a simple prayer:

Please Lord, reveal yourself to me.

or

God be merciful to me, a sinner. (Luke 18:13)

Once you have humbled yourself and begun to seek Him, He will show what you need to do next. The guidance may come through one of those five step tracts, through a person God sends you, or your own reading of His Word. He may even speak to you directly.

In any event, check whatever you are shown against the Bible to make certain it is true. There are subtle, deceiving spirits in the world.

Once the door has been opened and a right relationship restored, Christ stands ready to be all those things that are lacking in your life: Father, Husband, Friend, King.

People often let us down, but God never fails.

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8)

For a Child is born; to us a Son is given; and the government is on His shoulder; and His name is called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

There is no end to the increase of His government and of peace on the throne of David, and on His kingdom, to order it, and to sustain it with justice and with righteousness, from now and forever. The zeal of Jehovah of Hosts will do this. (Isaiah 9:6-7)
